Sulphur Native Interns in Boustany Office

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representative Charles W. Boustany, Jr. last week welcomed Sulphur native Liz Backhaus as a summer intern in his Washington office.  Backhaus, an accounting major at Louisiana State University, will work in Boustany’s Washington office until the end of June.

“Liz is a great addition to my Washington staff,” Boustany said. “This experience provides her the opportunity to learn the legislative process and assist the many Southwest Louisiana residents who visit our office everyday.  Liz is a bright student and I look forward to following her success in the coming years.”

Boustany makes every effort to treat interns as a member of his staff.  They attend briefings and committee hearings; respond to constituent mail, as well as assisting other staff members when needed.

“It is such a unique and interesting experience to be able to live and work in our nation’s capital.  To be able to walk through the Capitol building everyday is something that not too many people in Sulphur can say they’ve done,” Backhaus said.

Backhaus will stay in a dormitory at George Washington University during her stay in Washington D.C.
