Boustany Welcomes Pope Benedict XVI to Washington, D.C.

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representative Charles W. Boustany, Jr., MD, R-Southwest Louisiana, made the following statement today following Pope Benedict’s arrival to the nation’s Capitol.

Papal visits offer the Pope, Catholics and non-Catholics alike the opportunity to highlight important issues facing people around the world,” Boustany said. “I look forward to discussions his visit will produce during this historic time. His message of faith, hope and compassion is especially important to keep in mind as Congress debates issues both at home and abroad.”

During his time in Washington, Pope Benedict will meet with the President, celebrate mass at Washington’s new baseball stadium and meet with interfaith leaders to promote a more open dialogue between all faiths. On Friday, the Pope will travel to New York City where he will address the United Nations and visit Ground Zero, site of the former World Trade Center.
