Washington, Jul 26 -

When officers from U.S. Customs and Border Protection or U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement are using gun ranges at the Massena Rod & Gun Club, paying members of the club are often displaced.

To help alleviate that problem, Senator Charles Schumer and Congressman William L. Owens have drafted a letter to officials with both agencies, asking for $12,000 to help the club construct an access road that would enable the officers to use the “upper range.”

Should the club receive the funding to built the road, Rod & Gun Club President Mark Billings said federal agents could use the upper range pretty much whenever they want without displacing club members.

“It would definitely help,” Mr. Billings said, adding the upper range is a 300-yard range that doesn’t get as much use as the club’s other ranges. Those include two 100-yard ranges and a pistol range.

“The lower range is the one most of the members use for sighting rifles,” he said. “Most of them don’t use the 300-yard range. They shoot at 100-yards or shorter.”
