Support for the Bipartisan JOBS Act

This week the House will vote on the Jumpstart Our Business Startups Act (JOBS Act), the latest proposal by House Republicans to break down government barriers to job creation by eliminating red tape and freeing up access to capital.

After calling on President Obama to join us in supporting the JOBS Act last week, I was pleased when he officially announced his support yesterday for this important bipartisan legislation.

Having run a small business, I know how difficult it is to take an idea, jump through the bureaucratic hoops, put together the capital, and then turn it into a business.  At a time when new business startups are at the lowest levels in 30 years, this legislation will help to encourage innovation and job creation in Ohio and across the country.

While the JOBS Act will be a good step forward, there is still much more work to be done.  I hope the president will build on this bipartisan momentum and urge the Democratic-controlled Senate to act on House-passed energy bills so we can begin to address rising gas prices and help get our economy back to creating jobs.

Sincerely,

Boehner Column: Soaring Gas Prices Prove It's Time for an "All of the Above" Strategy on American Energy

"Soaring energy prices are raising the cost of living on families and small businesses across the country, presenting our nation’s economy with yet another challenge as it struggles to return to lasting job creation and prosperity.  And as with most of the challenges that have been thrown in our economy’s path in recent years, the misguided policies of our federal government are contributing directly to the problem."
