Malala Yousafazi, a 14-year old Pakistani girl from Swat Valley, was shot in the head by a Taliban gunman and is in critical conditions. Her offense was promoting girls’ education. Women and girls are often the victims of Islamist extremism..., and what happened to Malala ought to be a wake-up call for all those who care about women’s rights and democracy in Pakistan.
