Rehberg: "The people of Montana aren't fooled by the false appeal of easy money."

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Montana’s Congressman, Denny Rehberg, today issued the following statement in response to the “so-called” stimulus package returning to the U.S. House of Representatives for consideration after its earlier passage in the U.S. Senate.

“We need a stimulus package that truly provides a boost to the economy.  And while there are some good provisions in the bill there is a lot of work left to do on behalf of the working people of Montana before it’s ready for the President’s signature.  The temptation is always to take the easy money today and worry about how we’ll pay it back tomorrow.  Montana families face the same temptation when they get a new credit card.  But it’s the deceptively easy money of loose credit standards that got us into this mess in the first place, and at the end of the day, this “stimulus” is just adding to the debt by paying off one credit card with another one.  Worse, the federal spending waste in the bill prevents it from creating the jolt that our economy needs.  The people of Montana aren’t fooled by the false appeal of easy money.  By a margin of ten to one, Montanans have called my office to express their opposition to this legislation, and I share their concerns.”
