On this Labor Day Weekend, I want thank the hard working men and women that have made our state such a great place to live. It’s thanks to your gritty work ethic and get-it-done attitude that Montana has a world-renowned reputation for an honest day’s work.
As Montana’s sole member of the U.S. House of Representatives, I’m bringing that famous Montana work ethic to Washington, D.C. to fight for more good paying jobs across the state. That means getting federal obstruction out of the way to let Montana be a part of the energy solutions our country needs. It also means simplifying the tax code and cutting through the red tape that’s been behind the steady increase in Montana’s unemployment rate since 2007.
In the past several years, Washington, D.C. hasn’t been honest with Montana workers. They’ve taken your hard-earned tax dollars and used them to bail out fat cat Wall Street bankers, irresponsible states like California and even foreign countries like Greece. I’ve fought every single one of those bailouts – and I’m the only member of Montana’s delegation who can say that. Meanwhile, instead of helping the regular folks on Main Street, all Montana’s workers got from Washington was more regulation, more complex tax rules and higher unemployment.
We can do better, and as your Congressman, I want you to know that I’m going to stand up to the slick suits in Washington. This country belongs to the men and women with dirt under their fingernails.
And while work is important, this Labor Day we’ll also fire up the grills or head to the lake and remember why we love living in the Last Best Place. We work hard, and we play hard. That’s why I’m going to keep standing up to protect our state’s outdoor heritage. There are some pretty powerful people out East who want to lock us out of our own land. But I’m going to stand with you to keep public lands open for hiking, snowmobiling, hunting or riding an ATV.
Thank you for your hard work, and for giving me the opportunity to work for you in Washington. My door is always open, and I look forward to hearing from you as we find workable solutions to move our state forward.
