Rep. Towns Applauds Supreme Court for Upholding Key Provisions of the Affordable Care Act

Jun 28, 2012 Issues: Health Care

Washington, DC - Today, Congressman Edolphus “Ed” Towns (D-NY10) released the following statement upon the issue of the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision on the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (the “Affordable Care Act”).

“I applaud the United States Supreme Court upholding key provisions of the Affordable Care Act. The current law has already provided vast benefits to residents in neighborhoods all over Brooklyn. Over 349,000 residents have had their health insurance coverage improved. Medicare has improved for over 75,000 beneficiaries, including closing the prescription drug coverage gap making necessary prescriptions more affordable. Over 37,500 uninsured residents have had coverage extended to them, and over 61,000 young adults are now able to obtain coverage under their parents’ insurance plan.

“These are all benefits that we cannot as a society afford to lose. I am pleased that the Supreme Court agrees and that those who have seen the numerous benefits of the law will not lose them.”
