  1. On the road this morning to the harvesting of the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree near Meeker!
  2. I will be heading to Meeker on Friday for the Capitol Christmas Tree cutting. What an honor and opportunity it is for Coloradans to be able to showcase our state’s natural beauty by giving the gift of the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree—the People’s Tree—to our nation.   3. Praying for the safety of my DC staff and all along the East Coast who are going to be impacted by Hurricane Sandy.
  4. Great news from Montezuma County, where the Roatcap Fire is now in mop up stage. Grateful for the firefighters and support personnel who acted so quickly and effectively to contain this fire.
  5. Crews are making solid progress on the Wetmore Fire and those that were evacuated outside of the burn area got to return to their homes. Grateful for the firefighters and support personnel who acted so quickly and effectively to contain this fire.
  6. Wetmore Fire evacuees: There will be informational meetings on insurance and recovery programs on Thursday Oct. 25th at 1:00pm at the Baptist Church in Florence, Friday Oct. 26th, from 10:00am - 7:00pm and Saturday Oct 27th from 9:00am - 5:00pm at the Wetmore Volunteer Fire Station, 200 County Road 290.
  7. Governor Hickenlooper has declared the Wetmore Fire a disaster, opening up additional resources to assist with fire suppression and recovery efforts.
  8. There is currently a fire burning in Montezuma County--Roatcap Fire--and some evacuations have been ordered. Evacuees are being asked to check in at the Montezuma County Sheriff substation in Dolores. The Red Cross is responding. The sheriff's office has setup phone hotlines for additional information: 970-564-4997 and 970-564-4998.
  9. Wetmore Fire reception centers and shelters have been setup for evacuees at the Baptist Church at 303 E. 3rd Street in Florence and at the Church of Nazarene, 84 Stanford Avenue, Pueblo. Large animal boarding at Pathfinder Park in Canon City, the Cross Roads Event Center in Penrose, or the Colorado State Fairgrounds in Pueblo. Please heed all evacuation orders and stay safe.
  10. Latest update on the Wetmore Fire: 130 firefighters from 16 agencies are on scene; an estimated 386 residents evacuated; reached 1700 acres over night; high winds in the forecast. Praying for all who are affected and the brave men and women fighting this fire.
  11. Please join my staff in Saguache and Gunnison this coming Tuesday. They will be available to answer your questions and provide information on how my office can be of service to constituents.
