Grow our Economy by Helping Small Businesses

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Rodney Alexander, R-Quitman, issued the following statement in support of Majority Leader Eric Cantor’s Small Business Tax Cut Act:

“To grow our economy, we must help small businesses. One such way to achieve this is by providing some certainty in areas where we can.  Relentless worries over potential tax increases and an ever-growing bureaucratic arm are definitely taking their toll.

“Currently, cash-strained small businesses face federal tax rates as high as 35 percent. In the 5th District, where Mom and Pops are the backbone of our economy, we are being hammered. From 2005 to 2008, small business created a net total of 70,603 new jobs in Louisiana. But from 2008 to 2009, a net total of 7,081 small business jobs were lost.

“Instead of imposing even more cumbersome policies, we should cut taxes to give our proven job creators room to grow and succeed.

“Today, the House voted in support of the Small Business Tax Cut Act, which will provide a 20 percent tax deduction for small business owners who are struggling to create jobs in the present economy.

“A single bill will help 22 million hard-working small businesses—a result Louisiana and this country desperately need.”

U.S. Rep. Rodney Alexander, R-Quitman, represents Louisiana’s 5th Congressional District and serves on the House Appropriations Committee.
