FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CONTACT: Jamie Hanks | (202) 225-8490

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Rodney Alexander, R-Quitman, is pleased to welcome Stephanie Lutfallah to Washington D.C. this week. The Grand Prize winner for the 5th Congressional District is in the nation’s capital to join other winners from across the country for a ceremony in their honor.

Lutfallah, a student at Alexandria Senior High School, received this honor after receiving well over 1,000 “Likes” from the public on the Congressman’s Facebook page. Her creative piece, titled Le Pelican du Bayou, is a great representation of the Bayou State. As seen in the artwork, the reflection in the bayou is the setting for the pelican feeding her three young, similar to Louisiana’s state flag.  The beaver dam represents the nest, and the Cypress trees are carved with beautiful objects that represent the life of Louisiana.  The state’s national insect, the honeybee, can also be found in the golden sunset. Her artwork will be showcased in the corridor leading to the U.S. Capitol Building for the next year.
