Cohen: Planned Parenthood Greater Memphis Region to Receive $395K

MEMPHIS, TN – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that Planned Parenthood Greater Memphis Region (PPGMR) has received $395,000 for the Title X Family Planning Services Program from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Grants Management.

“Planned Parenthood Greater Memphis Region has been helping Memphis and Shelby County residents get the health care they need to lead happier, healthier lives for years,” said Congressman Cohen.  “These new federal funds will help ensure the Title X Family Planning Program reaches those who need help the most in underserved communities.”

The Title X Family Planning program [“Population Research and Voluntary Family Planning Programs” (Public Law 91-572)], was enacted in 1970 as Title X of the Public Health Service Act. Title X is the only federal grant program dedicated solely to providing individuals with comprehensive family planning and related preventive health services. The Title X program is designed to provide access to contraceptive services, supplies and information to all who want and need them. By law, priority is given to persons from low-income families.

PPGMR is one of Tennessee’s oldest and largest private, non-profit health care agencies. Since 1938, PPGMR has remained committed to providing high-quality, affordable reproductive services and education to women and men throughout the Mid-South, regardless of their ability to pay.
