Hurricane Sandy
My thoughts and prayers go out to those who lost loved ones in Hurricane Sandy, and to those who were injured or lost homes, businesses, and property. Thank you to first responders, rescue personnel, and National Guard serving our communties.
I am pleased FEMA agreed to my request to grant a major disaster declaration for Westchester and Rockland Counties, making our region eligible for public and indivdual assistance. To learn about these federal assistance programs, begin the application process, or check your application status, please visit www.DisasterAssistance.gov, m.fema.gov on your smartphone, or call 1-800-621-3362.
There are two other urgent priorities right now:
- Speeding the pace of power restoration in Westchester and Rockland Counties;
- Easing the gasoline shortage, particularly for emergency vehicles;
I am pushing the utility companies and FEMA, and working closely with the State and Counties so we can accomplish these priorities quickly. Please do not hesitate to contact my office at (914) 428-1707 or (845) 639-3485.
Please be safe and take precautions at home and on the road.
Sincerely,
-
