Dingell Continues to Bet on Detroit

Oct 24, 2012

Washington, D.C. –  Today, Congressman John D. Dingell (D-MI15) and Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA8) engaged in a friendly bet over which Major League Baseball team will be named 2012 World Series Champions.  The contenders for this year’s prestigious title are Congressman Dingell’s Detroit Tigers, and Leader Pelosi’s San Francisco Giants.  The stakes are high with Congressman Dingell betting a gift basket from Southeast Michigan’s Zingerman’s Delicatessen, and Leader Pelosi wagering an assortment of San Francisco chocolates.

Headquartered in Ann Arbor, Zingerman’s has not only become an institution for Michiganders, but as one of 25 of the World’s Best Food Markets.  They feature extraordinary, traditionally made food including hearth baked breads, handmade cheeses, varietal coffee, estate bottled olive oils, customized professional presents and chocolate, and other old-fashioned American sweets created by hand.  We also invite Leader Pelosi to visit Michigan after our win to see this Michigan institution, the source of great food and great experiences for thousands of visitors every year.

“America should know by now that it is never wise to bet against Detroit,” said Dingell.  “Through hard-fought success and difficult times,  Detroit always rises to the top.  This team, and this city, have proven to the country we can and will be victorious.  I look forward to witnessing another victory for the community at the end of the Tigers’ long journey to the 2012 World Series Championship.”

“I couldn’t  think of a better wager than Zingerman’s,” Dingell continued, “who has their own success story, starting as a small business in my district in 1982, and becoming a nationally renowned delicatessen by 2012.”

Congressman Hansen Clarke (D-MI13), Congressman John Conyers (D-MI14), and Congressman Sander Levin (D-MI12) are also participating in separate bets with the Democratic Leader.

The Tigers and Giants will face off in Game One tonight at 8:07 (ET) in San Francisco.  Join the Congressman in saying, “Go Tigers!”
