Sheet Music of the Week: Standard Time Edition

"Love's hour." Music by Arbutus M. Wolf, lyrics by Leila Bracey. New York: Jerome H. Remick & Co., 1916.

2:00 AM is prime time in popular music lyrics, the excitement of staying out late or the anxiety of insomnia prominently figuring in the songcraft of diverse artists from New Kids on the Block to Iron Maiden to Taylor Swift.

The hour also plays a part in our seasonal time-shift. In the Muse gently reminds North American readers that this weekend marks the beginning of Standard Time. Please remember to move your clocks back one hour at 2:00 AM Saturday night.  This reminder has been brought to you by the Historic Sheet Music, 1800-1922 collection in the Performing Arts Encyclopedia, where you can find this week’s featured sheet music, “Love’s hour,” with music composed by Arbutus Wolf and lyrics by Leila Bracey.

It’s Sunday at 2am (morning), not Saturday night- though I can understand how folks who are out and about Saturday night would think it is still Saturday night, but it is technically Sunday morning.
BTW- Inside Adams is posting a ‘time’ piece on DST. Stay tuned…
