Congressman Higgins Secures Federal Income Tax Extension for Those Impacted By WNY Storm
October 16, 2006

Today, October 16, 2006, Congressman Brian Higgins (NY-27) requested and received a deadline extension for residents required to file income taxes with the Internal Revenue Service today.

"Residents and business owners who are worrying about heat, electric and food should not have to worry about the burden of a tax deadline under these emergency conditions," said Congressman Higgins.  "Without power, many people, including accountants, don't even have the resources to file."

Under IRS regulations, those who filed for a six-month extension to the traditional April 15, 2006 deadline would have to submit their tax documents today.  Minutes ago the IRS agreed to a seven-day extension for those impacted by the storm in Western New York.

Congressman Higgins requested the extension after receiving numerous calls from Certified Public Accountants and individuals.
