Rep. Miller Statement on the I-94/I-69 Reconstruction Project Opening

Harrison Township, MI – U.S. Representative Candice Miller (MI-10) today attending the opening of the I-94/I-69 Freeway and Black Water Bridge project.  This project resulted in the widening and reconstructing 2.2 miles of I-94/I-69 between Lapeer Road and Pine Grove Avenue, and the replacement of the Black River Bridge – representing a needed investment in the community that will enhance international trade.

“The I-94/I-69 freeways are major arteries for trade between the United States and Canada and are vital to our local, state, and national economies.  The newly constructed Black River Bridge and enhancements to the freeways will reduce border crossing delays, relieve congestion in the community and improve commercial and passenger travel between the United States and Canada.  In addition, the new bridge will include a 14-foot wide bike/pedestrian crossing allowing for safe access across the Black River for pedestrians and bicyclists alike,” Miller said.  “The I-94/I-69 Freeway and the old Black River Bridge, had been one of the most dangerous traffic corridors in all of St. Clair County with far too many fatalities and injuries occurring in recent years.  This new freeway and bridge will significantly reduce crashes and improve safety by eliminating weaving traffic, and separating local traffic from traffic heading to Canada.  This finished project is a step in the right direction for the city of Port Huron, St. Clair County, the state of Michigan and will greatly benefit not only our community, but also enhance our great trading partnership with Canada.  I congratulate MDOT and everyone involved with this important project on a job well done.”
