Rep. Grimm & S.I. Borough President Molinaro Announce Donation Intake Warehouse at NYCT

STATEN ISLAND, NY - Today, Rep. Michael G. Grimm (R,C-NY) and Staten Island Borough President James Molinaro announced the opening of a donation intake center and warehouse at the New York Container Terminal.  The warehouse will serve as a central location for donated clothing, canned goods, furniture, cleaning supplies, and other items. Organizations and charities may then contact the warehouse to obtain items to meet the needs of the community.

Rep. Grimm said, “The generosity from within our community and throughout the country has been tremendous. People have come from all over to donate to those in need; however, our local churches, charities, and donation sites do not have enough room or the right conditions to collect, sort, and store the items.  I wholeheartedly thank the New York Container Terminal for offering a warehouse to serve as an intake site, storage facility, and distribution center.”

Borough President James P. Molinaro said, "I am very pleased that we now have a warehouse and a donation center at the New York Container Terminal so that donated relief goods can be shipped here. We owe a debt of gratitude to Terminal President Jim Devine for his extraordinary generosity and community-mindedness, because without this large space, we would have no place to assemble the thousands of donated supplies that we have already been receiving. I would also like to thank all the New Yorkers and people across our nation who have sent these much-needed items to Staten Island in our time of need."

The NYCT is located at 300 Western Avenue, near the entrance to the Bayonne Bridge.  It will be open Sunday from 12-5pm for large donations. Small donations can be dropped off anytime in the NYCT parking lot.  For large truckloads of donations, please call 718-816-2231 in advance to gain clearance to the port and warehouse. No perishable items will be accepted.
