With the presidential declaration of California as a major disaster area, residents of Los Angeles, Ventura, San Bernardino, and San Diego Counties are eligible to apply for federal disaster assistance. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has established a toll-free number for fire victims to apply for assistance, which can include grants to help pay for temporary housing, home repairs and other serious disaster-related expenses. Low-interest loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration are also available for residential and business losses not covered by insurance.
