COCHRAN STATEMENT ON POLICY REVERSAL
FOR OFFSHORE ENERGY PRODUCTION

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Thad Cochran (R-Miss.) today issued the following statement regarding the Interior Department announcement that it would reverse course from President Obama’s decision this spring and instead block offshore energy development in parts of the Gulf of Mexico and along the Atlantic and Pacific coastlines:

“I do not agree with the course being set by the Obama administration.  The American people would be best served with a balanced, responsible energy policy that allows us to make use of all our domestic energy resources.  Unilaterally shutting down offshore exploration in areas the administration once deemed acceptable effectively keeps the nation from benefiting from its own oil and natural gas reserves.”
