The Aftermath
Dear Friends,

Over the past two days, Hurricane Sandy has devastated areas across the eastern states, leaving 8 million homes without power, thousands of homes destroyed, and 50 lives tragically lost.

We are very fortunate that our Washington, D.C. office is now open today and our staff is safe. However, many areas across the country were not so lucky and the damage is horrific. People have lost their homes, belongings and loved ones and they face a long road back to recovery.

As we all watched the horrific effects of the storm on the news here in California, I couldn't help but be proud of the resiliency of our people. The heroism of strangers, first responders, and emergency personnel alike truly exemplify the American spirit. Whenever our nation is tested, we always come together to help our neighbors.

Although we are out of harm's way here in California, I ask that you join me in prayer for all of our families, friends and fellow Americans across the country who are affected by the storm. When you watch the devastation in places like New Jersey and New York, please be reminded that there are ways we can all help:
  • Simply text the word redcross to 90999 to donate $10 right now through your mobile carrier. Charges will apply to your mobile phone bill next month. Click here to find out other ways that you can donate to the American Red Cross
  • Donate Blood. Hurricane Sandy has impacted blood supply, canceling over 100 donor drives in the past week. They are in urgent need of blood and platelet donations to support those affected by the hurricane.  Click here to find donation opportunities in California.
  • Be a part of the relief effort. Know anyone who is currently safe on the East Coast? The Red Cross is looking for volunteers within driving distance of the areas affected by Hurricane Sandy. If you know anyone nearby, please send them this email and ask them to help. Click here for more information
Thank you and may God bless all of those affected by Sandy.
