BANGOR, MAINE – Today, Congressman Mike Michaud announced that Ed Lindsey, a chemistry and earth science teacher at Old Town High School, has been awarded the President’s Innovative Award for Environmental Educators (PIAEE).  The award honors educators who take innovative approaches to environmental education and emphasize the environment in the classroom.

“Ed Lindsey’s ‘natural laboratory’ approach to teaching is the type of classroom innovation that connects students directly with the environment and their community and leaves a lasting impact long after students have graduated," said Michaud.  “I congratulate Ed Lindsey and Old Town High School for their commitment to finding new and engaging ways to excite students about the critical environmental protection and conservation lessons vital to our future.”

In addition to his work at Old Town High School, Lindsey has helped several local towns to help reformat their earth science programs.  Lindsey was one of two educators in the EPA’s New England Region selected to receive the PIAEE honor.
