Boustany Addresses Ways and Means with Southwest Louisiana Business Community

Lake Charles, LA– U.S. Congressman Charles W. Boustany, Jr., MD (R-Southwest Louisiana) today spoke to key Calcasieu area business leaders about federal spending and his role on the tax-writing Ways and Means Committee and as the Subcommittee Chair on Oversight.

“Burdensome regulations are killing jobs, stifling economic growth and hurting families across this country,” Boustany said.“As a member of the Ways and Means Committee I am leading the fight against red-tape and power hungry bureaucrats. Americans have had enough – it’s time to tackle the biggest, most complex issues of the day, from rewriting our tax code, to strengthening our trade policy to create jobs. Coastal Southwest Louisiana is at the forefront of these issues, and I’m ready for the fight.”

Boustany discussed his support of Rep. Paul Ryan’s budget, which passed the House of Representatives last week.“House Republicans stood up and produced a budget which makes the spending cuts this country needs, and protects programs for seniors including Medicare and Medicaid, while President Obama failed to lead,” Boustany said.“The debt crisis, caused by President Obama and his liberal allies, is the single greatest threat to our economic and national security, and we must tackle it now. The tax and spend policies of this Administration must be stopped to get our country back on strong economic footing.”

Today’s event in Lake Charles was attended by several dozen business leaders in the area. Boustany continues to be a leader for Southwest Louisiana since taking office in 2005, directing much needed resources in the wake of Hurricane Rita and creating the first coastal restoration study for the region.
