Committee Releases VA Conference Inquiry and “Patton-Style” Videos

Aug 22, 2012 Issues: Veterans

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today, Rep. Jeff Miller, Chairman of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, along with Rep. Bob Filner, Ranking Member of the Committee, released a letter sent August 16, 2012, to Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Honorable Eric K. Shinseki, regarding VA conferences expenditures and the VA OIG conference investigation. To view the letter, please click here.

The Committee also obtained the “Patton-style” videos, produced for the two VA conferences last year at an approximate cost of $52,000. To view the video, click here. Chairman Jeff Miller said of the videos:

“I question the excessiveness in which taxpayer dollars are being used to fund multi-million dollar conferences. The Committee will continue to investigate these conferences. I have requested all budgets and materials for VA conferences that have occurred over the past three years to see if these two conferences are an anomaly or are part of a bigger pattern.”
