  14. As Hurricane Sandy approaches, I strongly encourage all residents of the 11th District and of Northeastern Pennsylvania to prepare for this potentially dangerous storm. Weather forecasters say our area might experience sustained high winds and very heavy rain, and it is possible that these conditions could continue for several days. At this point, it appears very likely that some parts of our regi...
on will experience serious flooding, downed trees, prolonged power outages, flying debris, impassable roads, and even structural damage.

I know that for many, the possibility of another intense storm just 14 months after Tropical Storm Lee and Hurricane Irene is almost too much to bear. Some are still recovering from those floods. But the people of Northeastern Pennsylvania are resilient, and I know that together, we can make it through this storm and whatever it brings. Rest assured that I will bring the full resources of the federal government to bear, if and when they are needed.

I have directed my staff, both in the 11th District and in Washington, to remain in contact with federal, state, county, and local officials as they prepare for and respond to Hurricane Sandy.

Federal resources, including rapid-response teams from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, are already deploying in Pennsylvania. I’m pleased to see the federal government position assets in the state ahead of this storm.

Since my first day in Washington, I have been committed to creating jobs and helping keep businesses competitive in Northeastern Pennsylvania. We must restore a growing, healthy economy in our area and across the country. Furthermore, we need to achieve energy independence, and going forward, encourage responsible domestic energy exploration. America needs to be better positioned to fuel our country in the months and years to come.

, being told by the Obama Administration to “stand down.” In a stunning act of bravery, this team ignored those orders, went to the consulate, and evacuated those they could.

When the annex itself came under attack, this team called for help from the U.S. military – and those requests were also denied by the Obama Administration.

The president needs to explain to the American people, who told our response team to “stand down” twice during the terrorist attack in Libya? Who told them to not try to save our ambassador and other Americans at our consulate? Who denied the requests for military help during the attack on our annex?

The American people – especially the families of those who were brutally assaulted and killed – deserve truthful answers, and they deserve them right now. http://fxn.ws/Sd6Tey

  20. As most of you may have heard, Hurricane Sandy could impact Northeastern Pennsylvania early next week. The National Weather Service is predicting flash flooding or river flooding. Please make sure you are prepared. Visit http://www.ready.gov/floods for more information and keep track of the local weather forecast.
  21. A report by the Energy Information Administration predicts that colder weather and higher fuel prices will drive up heating costs much higher than last year’s relatively mild winter. Therefore, on October 10, I signed a letter sent to Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebellius to urge the Administration to quickly release funds for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). LIHEAP will help ensure recipients do not have to choose between paying their energy bills and paying for food and medicine.

  24. Since January 2009, for every person added to the labor force, 10 have left. The president’s policies have failed U.S. citizens and continue to hurt the economy. I have voted for and the House passed 39 jobs bills that are now stuck in the Senate. We must restore a growing, healthy economy in our area and across the country. We must preserve the American Dream for our nation’s children and grandchildren.

A U.S. CEO partners with North Carolina Universities to give $1 million in scholarships to illegal aliens. http://bit.ly/RJCgNC A recent study found that 2011 college students graduated with about $26,600 in debt – up 5% from 2010—and faced a 8.8 percent unemployment rate. Do you think this entrepreneur is right in creating college scholarships solely for illegal aliens?
  26. Monthly Social Security and Supplemental Security Income benefits for nearly 62 million Americans will increase 1.7 percent in 2013.

We cannot forgo our promise to our nation’s seniors. I voted for a 10-year budget proposal that would protect and preserve Social Security benefits, while also paying off the national debt. Additionally, I’m a cosponsor of the CPI for Seniors Act (H.R. 1806), which ...
would dramatically improve the way the Social Security cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) is calculated. This bill would include the costs of gasoline, home heating oil, and health care when the annual COLA is determined. Right now, those three factors are excluded from the COLA calculation, and that’s not fair. Energy costs, for instance, are at record levels for this time of year.

I believe we need to give seniors a more realistic cost-of-living increase that keeps up with their rising living expenses.

Now, another government-aided advanced-battery manufacturer that received $249 million from the 2009 economic stimulus, filed for bankruptcy. This is just another example of a clean-energy failure funded at the taxpayers’ expense. fxn.ws/QQcjsW
