CT DELEGATION HAILS DECLARATION OF MAJOR DISASTER IN WAKE OF HURRICANE SANDY
10.30.12
WASHINGTON – The Connecticut delegation Tuesday hailed President Obama’s declaration of a major disaster in the state, which entitles individuals and local and state governments to receive federal funds to recover from Hurricane Sandy.
The declaration covers eligible people and governments in Fairfield, Middlesex, New Haven, and New London counties, as well as the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation and Mohegan Tribal Nation.
“We are grateful to the President for this declaration, which will help the people of Connecticut most affected by this terrible storm get back on their feet and return to normal life,” the delegation said. “State and personal resources have been depleted by a number of disasters that have battered Connecticut over the past year, damaging homes and businesses, taking down power lines, and leaving roads and property littered with debris.
“This is critical funding for Connecticut, and we hope additional aid will be granted for other types of recovery measures.”
The disaster declaration entitles eligible applicants to aid for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses, debris removal, emergency protective measures, and hazard mitigation measures.
