CONGRESSMAN DAN BURTON TO CO-SPONSOR THE TEACH ACT |
||
(Washington, D.C.) – Congressman Dan Burton [R-IN-05] announced today that he would co-sponsor HR 2390, the TEACH Act, a bill that aims to increase the number of teachers and paraprofessional teaching assistants with expertise in autism spectrum disorders by providing a refundable tax credit for qualified education expenses of such teachers and teaching assistants. Said Burton, “With the number of cases of autism in American increasing every day, new professional educators are needed to combat the affects of this terrible disease.” According to the Center for Disease Control most recent findings, 1 in 150 children suffer from autism spectrum disorders. Concluded Burton, “Autism is reaching epidemic proportions in America. The bottom line is that we as a country are not prepared to provide for the needs of these children. Their needs will only continue to increase as they mature to adulthood. This bill is a step in the right direction and I hope it comes to the House Floor for a vote soon.” ###
