Dr. Burgess on the Floor: The Affordable Care Act Continues to Hurt Patients and Doctors
Posted by Whitney Thompson on July 09, 2012
Dr. Burgess spoke on the House Floor about a recent survey that found that only 31 percent of Texas doctors are accepting new patients who rely on Medicaid. In 2010 – the last time the survey was taken - 42 percent accepted new Medicaid patients. And in 2000, the number was 67 percent. That’s a 36 percent drop since 2000. The Texas Medical Association attributes the dropping numbers to low pay and red tape. Doctors appeared to be losing patience with government-funded health care plans in general.
