    In 1955, Sen. John F. Kennedy, with a powerful (some say determinative) assist from his principal aide, Ted Sorensen, produced a book that became an instant classic. In contrast to the dribble that so many aspiring presidential hopefuls have brought forth since, Kennedy’s Profiles in Courage remains in print and in the curricula of schools more than a half century after its publication.

    Its endurance flows from its timeless theme.     Gay Ban Repealed: Connecticut moderate didn't take a left turn, but upheld his principles

    U.S. Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman pleased opponents of "don't ask, don't tell," the policy that bans gay men and women from serving openly in the military. He was instrumental in the repeal Saturday, when the Senate retired "don't ask" to a dark corner of the nation's history on a 65-31 vote.

    But did he change the minds of liberals and moderates likely to abandon him if he runs for re-election in 2012? That's doubtful.

    Repeal advocate Aubrey Sarvis, executive director of the Servicemembers Legal Defense Network, voiced the feelings of many when she lauded the Connecticut Democrat-turned-independent: "He's certainly one of my heroes today. His determination, his tenacity, has kept this going all year. This would have not happened without Sen. Lieberman."

Senators Introduce Revised Cybersecurity Legislation, S.3414

The five co-sponsors of bipartisan cybersecurity legislation introduced new, revised legislation July 19, 2012; to protect our national security, economic security, and life-sustaining services from increasingly commonplace cyber-attacks.

The co-sponsors - Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee Chairman Joe Lieberman, ID-Conn., Ranking Member Susan Collins, R-Maine, Commerce Committee Chairman Jay Rockefeller, D-W.Va., Select Intelligence Committee Chairman Dianne Feinstein, D-Ca., and Federal Financial Management Subcommittee Chairman Tom Carper, D-Del. – offered the revised Cybersecurity Act of 2012 in a good faith effort to secure enough votes to address the immediate threat of attack from foreign nations, hacktivists, criminals, and terrorists against the nation’s most critical cyber systems.
