Chairman Bilirakis on the hearing:

"Our enemies have made no secret of their desire to use weapons of mass destruction to attack the United States. We must do all we can to prevent and prepare for such a scenario. This hearing is the second in a series on medical countermeasures. Last month, the Subcommittee considered the Federal government's efforts to work with industry to research, develop, and acquire vaccines, diagnostics, and other medical supplies. This hearing will focus on federal, state, and local efforts to distribute and dispense these vital countermeasures in the event of a CBRN attack, pandemic, or other emergency."
