Cravaack Statement on GOP Budget

Washington, D.C.– U.S. Representative Chip Cravaack (MN) released the following statement regarding the House-passed budget resolution:

"With $15.3 trillion in debt and over eight percent unemployment for the past 36 straight months, Americans are seeking solutions.  Unfortunately, last month the President released a budget that ignores our mounting debt, imposes the largest tax hike in history on job creators and hardworking families, and reinforces the same failed policies that have produced our first four trillion-dollar deficits in a row.

The President’s plan imposes $200,000 in new government debt per household over the next 10 years for a total of $11 trillion.  Unquestionably, this is a path toward a bankrupt future for our children and grandchildren.

Under the President’s plan, Medicare will go bankrupt by 2022.  Worse still, the President’s health care law gives control over Medicare to 15 unelected bureaucrats. This is unacceptable, and this is why the House strives to empower 50 million seniors to choose what’s best for them.

We are on an unsustainable path toward bankruptcy and decline, and we must correct it.  That is why we seek a path to renewed liberty, opportunity, solvency, and prosperity.

The House-passed budget will take our nation’s crushing debt burden head on.  This budget will confront our debt problem, spur job creation with pro-growth tax reform, and strengthen our health and retirement security programs for future generations."

Representative Cravaack serves on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee – where he is Vice Chair of the Aviation Subcommittee – the Homeland Security Committee, and the Science, Space and Technology Committee. The 8th Congressional District covers 18 counties in Northeast Minnesota.
