Cravaack Meets With NORAD and USNORTHCOM Commander to Discuss 148th Fighter Wing Mission

Washington, D.C.Yesterday, U.S. Representative Chip Cravaack met with General Chuck Jacoby, Jr., Commander, NORAD and USNORTHCOM, to discuss the 148th Fighter Wing’s 24-hour alert status relative to Department of Defense sequestration efforts.

“The 148th is a huge part of our community, and we have an extraordinary amount of pride for the ‘Bulldogs.’  I expressed my concern to the General that the removal of Duluth’s 24-hour alert mission would leave our northern border between Madison, WI and Portland, OR more vulnerable to attack,” said Rep. Cravaack.

“I also voiced my concern for the impact such a decision would have on the Duluth community, as well as my sincere hope that the 148th retains its mission to protect U.S. airspace and our northern border against air threats.  I look forward to working with the General to ensure the ‘Bulldogs’ remain a critical piece of our air defense system.”
