- Yesterday afternoon, I had the great honor of welcoming the first group of Taiwanese citizens to visit the United States without a visa. In October, the United States accepted Taiwan into the State Department’s Visa Waiver Program and LAX rolled out the red carpet to welcome our newest guests in style.

Did you know that you can now apply to register to vote by filling in the online application.? If you haven’t yet registered to vote, or need to change your registration information, today is your last chance! California residents have until midnight tonight to vote in the Nov. 6 presidential election. To complete and submit your applications go to: http://www.lavote.net/- The first ever vote I cast for president was for George McGovern.
I was campus co-chair for his campaign as a sophomore at Abilene Christian University in Texas, and I had been lucky enough to meet him with my father some time before. I will never forget the courage and conviction he brought to his stand against the Vietnam war, and his unwavering defense of strong progressive values.
Senator McGovern was a great statesman, whose commitment to peace and equality inspired an entire generation of young activists and leaders like me. He truly left this world a better place for his having been in it. - Tomorrow I will host a Congress on Your Corner event at the Downtown San Pedro Farmers Market from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM. If you need assistance or have questions, my district staff and I will be there to help. Feel free to come by and visit!

I'm so sorry to hear of the sudden loss of John Greenwood. John was a good friend and an amazing human being.- On National Coming Out Day, I am proud to stand with the LGBT community and NOH8 on the side of love.
I believe marriage equality is a civil rights issue. Love deserves celebrating, not shaming, and no one should feel harassed or unsafe because of who they are. - Standing with Mayor Villaraigosa and Transportation Secretary LaHood at the Green Line Aviation/LAX Station. The Crenshaw/LAX line will be a great step forward toward a world class public transportation system for a world class city.
