  1. Earlier today I had the opportunity to visit with the middle school students of one of my own former students, Neff Blackmon. As a former teacher it was an honor to speak to a former student’s class. Nef and I share a passion for teaching and underscored the importance of civic duty to the students.

  2. I spent the start of this Election Day speaking with 7th and 8th grade students at Holy Family Catholic School in Fort Worth. It was a privilege to be invited by one on of my own former students, teacher Neff Blackmon, to speak to his class on American History. As a former teacher myself and now Member of the U.S. House of Representatives this was truly an honor on a very important day to our nation.

  4. This morning I spoke to 260 elementary students from Kay Granger Elementary about the electoral process. As a former teacher and current Member of Congress it was a privilege to see these young students learning about being effective civil servants.

  6. Today we recognize World Polio Day. Although polio cases have dropped by 99% worldwide over the past 20 years, there is still work to be done to completely eradicate the disease. Rotary International has volunteered significant time and money to the effort to end polio.   7. Last night Fort Worth native Bob Schieffer moderated the final presidential debate. A Texas Christian alum, Schieffer began his prolific career working as a reporter for the Star Telegram. He is now the namesake of TCU’s renowned journalism school and a proud contributor to our city’s legacy. Great job Bob! goo.gl/Igx4m

  10. Tomorrow the city of San Diego will warmly welcome the Navy's newest addition, the U.S.S. Fort Worth. I am so proud to have witnessed this ship's journey from its naming ceremony in Wisconsin, to its commissioning in Galveston, and now to its home port in San Diego.
