In 1948, just before my sixth birthday, I legally immigrated to the United States from Poland with my mother who became a naturalized citizen in April 1960. My American father, along with my brother and sister returned to the United States the preceding year. Although employed for several years, in 2005 I applied for Social Security benefits under my husband’s account. However, benefits were denied until I could prove my legal status.

I had no idea where to turn so I called Congressman Bishop’s office. My case was complicated and needed many documents from the 1940s. It took nearly one year to resolve the Social Security issue and an additional three years to prove that I was a citizen of the United
States. Four years in total, but Tim Bishop’s office was with me every step of the way. They were patient, they were understanding, and they were effective. I love this country, and I am grateful that when I needed help, there were people here for me. Today, I have proof that I am an American citizen thanks to Congressman Bishop and his professional staff.
