Steam Engine
The steam engine was the heart of the sawmill. This 20-ton steam engine was made by Houston, Stanwood & Gamble Co., Cincinnati, Ohio in 1900. It was originally used in the Nona-Fletcher Lumber Co. in Kountze, TX.
High Wheel Cart
This slip-tongue high wheel cart is a relic of early logging days. This cart was one of the last ox-drawn or mule-drawn carts used for skidding logs to the railroad spurs in the forest. This cart was built in 1950 for W.T. Carter & Bro. Lumber Co. and was replaced in 1951 by tractor-powered equipment.
Fire Tower
Fire lookout towers were used to detect forest fires in Texas from the early 1930’s until the 1970’s. This tower was built in 1936 for the Texas Forest Service and was moved to the museum in 1974 from Conroe, TX.

Welcome to Texas Forestry Museum

The Texas Forestry Museum is home to the story of the forests of Texas. The complexity of the natural resource, the legacy of the industry, and the current and future role of forest management practices can be explored through three galleries, outdoor exhibits, and an Urban Wildscape Trail.

Come See Our New Sawmill Doctor Exhibit!

The Texas Forestry Museum has a new exhibit on sawmill doctors. It depicts the life of a sawmill doctor and his role in a sawmill town.

This exhibit is made possible from donations from the Angelina Rotary Club, Rotary International, and James Bryan.  Cindy Bryan Weems, the daughter of Dr. Arthur Bryan, and her husband, Pat, donated Dr. Bryan's medical collection for this exhibit.

Come See Our New Smokey Bear Exhibit!

The Texas Forestry Museum has a new exhibit in celebration of Smokey Bear's 70th Birthday.  Come learn the story of Smokey Bear and see memorabilia from decades past including: dolls, stamps, a milk carton, a baseball, and much more!

Thank you to the Kiwanis Club of Lufkin for their donations to help make this exhibit possible.
