November is National Adoption Month— a time to raise awareness of the 100,000 children in foster care currently waiting to be adopted and to finalize adoptions in the United States. As an adoptive parent, I’ve experienced the joy of building our family through adoption and am a proud advocate of connecting children without a family to permanent and loving parents.- The thoughts and prayers of the entire Gulf Coast are with everyone along the Eastern Seaboard bracing for Hurricane Sandy.
- I helped break ground today on a new covered horse ring at Equest Farm in New Orleans City Park. The project is part of a post-Katrina effort to transform Equest Farm into a premier regional destination for horse shows, fundraisers and community events. Equest Farm is helping place City Park at the top of urban parks in America.
- Great to have Senator Ron Wyden from Oregon in South Louisiana today. Sen. Wyden will be leading the Senate's energy committee next year, and he is in Louisiana to learn more about the critical role Louisiana—and the entire Gulf Coast—plays in our nation’s energy future.
- Yesterday, I met with students at Iberville Parish Academy West. The Academy focuses on STEM (Science & Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education with an emphasis on distance learning. These classrooms are the future of education in Louisiana.
