Statement on 33rd Vote to Repeal the Affordable Care Act

WASHINGTON – U.S. Rep. Karen Bass (D-Calif.) made the following statement today after House Republicans voted for the 33rd time to repeal the Affordable Care Act. The bill is not expected to see further legislative activity in Congress.

“A popular definition of the word insanity is doing the same action multiple times and expecting different results. So, today’s decision by House Republicans to vote to repeal the Affordable Care Act for the 33rd time, even after the Supreme Court defended its constitutionality, cannot be described with any word other than insane.

“The Affordable Care Act was created to provide every American with affordable and reliable healthcare – and today we can be thankful that 86 million Americans have access to life-saving cancer screenings like mammograms and colonoscopies, 180 million people cannot be denied healthcare because they are sick and 47 million seniors benefit from a stronger Medicare program. There is no denying that the Affordable Care Act will and is benefiting millions of Americans.

“We must not waste another minute engaging in political theater. Now is our time to show the American people we are listening and are working together to provide solutions to get our country back on a path of long-term prosperity”
