Woolsey Statement on Alberto Gonzales' Resignation

Washington, DC - Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey (D-Petaluma) today issued the following statement on the resignation of Attorney General Alberto Gonzales:

“From his justifications for the President's torture policy, to the political firings of US Attorneys and his refusal to provide honest testimony before the Congress, Alberto Gonzales seemed to treat the rule of law as an inconvenience that could be bent for the Administration's gain.  While his resignation today is long overdue, it does nothing to answer the numerous questions that surround his tenure in office, or heal the political rift that he has helped to create.

“We can’t forget that the Attorney General is the people’s lawyer, not the President’s.”
