Woolsey Reaction to President's Support of Amendment to Ban Same-Sex Marriage

"Constitutional Amendments have been successful in expanding civil rights and civil liberties - they must not be used to promote discrimination,” said Rep. Woolsey.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Rep. Lynn Woolsey (D-Petaluma) released the following statement in reaction to President Bush’s support of a Constitutional Amendment to prohibit same-sex marriage.

The following is Rep. Woolsey’s statement:

“The Constitution of the United States is a precious document that must not promote discrimination, or pander to the President’s conservative base.

“By allowing all Americans who want to be in a committed relationship, regardless of sexual orientation, to benefit from the safety and security that marriage provides, we will help promote strong family values that are the foundation of our nation’s moral and financial well-being.”
