Statement from Congressman Brian Higgins on Governor Kasich’s Bill Veto

“I am pleased to see that Ohio Governor John Kasich has vetoed legislation in his state that would have allowed businesses to remove up to 5 million gallons of water a day from Lake Erie. Like us, Governor Kasich has shown that he recognizes the environmental and economic devastation that could have resulted if this bill had become law. As the largest source of surface fresh water in the world, the Great Lakes are an asset not to be taken for granted. I am thankful that Governor Kasich has chosen to protect Lake Erie, and hopeful that restoration efforts throughout the Great Lakes region will continue.”

On Wednesday, Congressman Higgins sent a letter to Governor Kasich recommending that he veto this legislation and on Thursday Congressman Higgins took to the House floor in defense of the Great Lakes.
