The President Can't Stop Spending

President Barack Obama has a spending problem. He's run decifits of more than a trillion dollars every year he's been in office, even when he pledged to cut deficits in half by the end of his first term. He has pushed our nation past 16 trillion dollars in debt -- a depressing milestone.

Rep. Darrell Issa, chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, released a video today detailing lavish spending on White House state dinners. An event for Mexico's president ran a tab of almost 1 million dollars. Watch:

To put things in perspective, the House Republican Study Committee released a video this week showing how much debt a family would incur if they spent as irresponsibly and unsustainably as the federal goverment does today:

“I’ve said many times that I believe the single, biggest threat to our national security is our debt, so I also believe we have every responsibility to help eliminate that threat.”

-Adm. Mike Mullen, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff

It's time you start taking our national debt seriously, Mr. President.

Anniversary of the Washington Monument Opening to the Public

81,120 tons. 555 feet tall. 896 steps. On October 9, 1888, the world's tallest stone structure opened to the public--the Washington Monument. It stands in honor of George Washington's military heroism during the American Revolution. Construction of the massive obelisk began in 1848, then halted in 1856 due to the Civil War, political unrest, and monetary uncertainty. Building resumed in 1876, finishing at last in 1884. Today marks 124 years since its opening. While the monument is still structurally sound, it is currently undergoing repairs after damage from an earthquake on August 23, 2011. You can learn more about the history of this majestic monument at the National Park Service

House Republican Leadership Press Conference

We've now passed 38 jobs bills that still sit in the Democrat-controlled U.S. Senate. House Republicans have shown leadership in working to grow our economy and provide an environment for job creation. It's time for Democrats in the Senate and the White House to do the same.

The President's War on Coal

President Obama has said repeatedly that he is for an "all of the above" approach to energy production, but his actions are limiting the use of coal and costing thousands of jobs across America. Learn more here and let us know what you think about the president's war on coal using #WarOnCoal

Rep. Allen West (R-FL) Delivers the Weekly Republican Address (VIDEO)

In this week's address, Congressman Allen West, a Retired U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel, discusses the deadline for the sequester, and the White House's devastating inaction on what was originally their idea. The Republican-led House has proposed responsible replacements to the sequester's historically crippling across-the-board cuts to our nation's military. The recent vicious attacks on embassies in the Middle East underscore the need to preserve our military strength. The president and Senate Democrats must put aside partisan politics to work with us to preserve our military and replace the sequester.

Congressman Allen West (R-FL) will deliver the Weekly Republican Address tomorrow, Saturday, September 15. Here is a sneak peek of Rep. West delivering the address, in which he's expected to discuss the upcoming sequester deadline—across the board, devastating cuts to our military--and how House Republicans are the only ones with a solution to replace it with responsible reforms. You can watch the address here tomorrow.

Republican Leadership Press Conference

Eleven years ago today, we lost thousands of lives at the hands of terrorists. So much has changed since the attacks on September 11th, 2001. We've grown closer as a nation. We've grown stronger. We remember those lost, and we are eternally grateful for our armed forces that fight every day to protect us. Today, we stand united as ever.

Rhetoric vs. Reality (VIDEO)

Our national debt is now more than 16 trillion dollars. The president's current budget has received zero votes. Senate Democrats haven't even passed a budget in more than 3 years. When it comes to our skyrocketing debt, the president's rhetoric simply doesn't match reality. It's time for serious solutions to solve our fiscal crisis. Visit GOP.gov/budget to learn more.

Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) Delivers the Weekly Republican Address (VIDEO)

In this week's address, Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) speaks from his district in New Orleans, discussing the aftermath of Hurricane Isaac and its effect on constituents and the surrounding area. Hundreds of thousands of people still remain without power, and the threat of flooding continues throughout southeast Louisiana. "In tough times," he says, "we strive harder. We remember what's most important to us, and we fight to protect it."

Returning Students: Welcome Back to the Failed Obama Economy (CHART)

As students return to high school and college at the end of this month, here's what lies ahead of them in the failed Obama economy: skyrocketing debt, doubled gas prices, fewer options for higher education, and an abysmal job market. Simply put, the president's policies have failed and they're making the economy worse.

House Republicans have a Plan for America's Job Creators and the House has passed more than 30 bi-partisan jobs bills awaiting action in the Democrat-controlled U.S. Senate. We're working to ease the burden on small businesses so they can hire again and provide better opportunities for students and graduates. Learn more at jobs.GOP.gov

Rep. Vicky Hartzler (R-MO) Delivers the Weekly Republican Address (VIDEO)

Rep. Vicky Hartzler (R-MO) delivered this week’s address on the House’s efforts to jumpstart our nation’s sluggish economy. Republicans in the House have stopped a small business tax hike scheduled for January 1st, passed more than 30 jobs bills that eliminate excessive red tape, empower small businesses, and approve the Keystone XL pipeline. In addition, they have also passed a budget that fixes our dysfunctional tax code, pays down our debt, and strengthens Medicare. And while our nation’s suffers under a historic drought, the House has passed a measure that will help devastated farmers during this time. House Republicans have acted. Senate Democrats and the president must do the same.

What's Fair, Mr. President? (VIDEO)

President Obama’s policies have failed and have made our economy worse. He’s invested taxpayers' money into failed projects, rejected domestic energy production and wants to raise taxes to increase government spending. Because he can’t stand on his record, he is resorting to the politics of envy and division, oftentimes promoting his policies as “fair.”

President Obama calls for fairness, but ironically his failed policies are anything but fair to Americans who are trying to find work and make ends meet in this economy.

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor Delivers the Weekly Republican Address (VIDEO)

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) delivered this week's address on the House's recent action to stop the tax hike and roll back burdensome regulations on America's small businesses. National unemployment has remained above 8% for 42 consecutive months under the current administration. Now is not the time to raise taxes on anyone.

#StopTheTaxHike (VIDEO)

If Congress doesn't act, everyone will see their taxes increase on January 1, 2013. Last week, Senate Democrats passed the president's plan to raise taxes on more than 900,000 small businesses. House Republicans believe that no one should see their taxes go up during the worst unemployment crisis since the Great Depression. That's why we're voting to #StopTheTaxHike on every hardworking American taxpayer and small business and move forward with comprehensive tax reform.

Republican Leadership Press Conference

House Republicans are committed to stopping Democrats' massive year-end tax hike that would cost more than 700,000 American jobs.
