Schock Encourages Charitable Participation
U.S. Rep. Aaron Schock on Tuesday encouraged charitable participation to benefit communities among some 80 agencies and their employees in a 15-county area in the Combined Federal Campaign.

“When you give through the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) to the charity of your choice... you empower a person in need, strengthen your neighborhoods and community for both you and your children, and not only make a difference but create the foundation for systematic change,” Schock said during the kickoff event held in Peoria.

The CFC was created by President Kennedy in 1961 and is generally considered to be the only authorized workplace solicitation of federal employees, postal workers, and members of the military.

The Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) is the largest charitable giving campaign in the world, bringing in over $7 billion dollars since its inception. Last year alone, the CFC raised more than $272 million nationwide. Locally, since 200, the central Illinois CFC has raised more than $2.6 million.

“Right now with our economy the way it is, these charities are pressed even more. The amount of money that these charities receive from the federal, state and local governments has dissipated and as a result, they are relying more and more on your donations,” Schock said.

“I know it’s not fun to ask for money, but you’re not asking for money for yourself. There are needy groups in this community. We are fortunate that even in a down economy we are still employed; we are still getting paycheck,” Schock said.

The mission is to promote and support philanthropy through a program that is employee focused, cost-efficient, and effective in providing all federal employees the opportunity to improve the quality of life for all.
