McCaskill Congratulates Missouri Schools Honored for Excellence

Five schools receive national ‘Blue Ribbon’ award for boosting student achievement

September 7, 2012

WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill today congratulated five Missouri schools for being nationally recognized as going above and beyond in setting the bar for excellence in education.

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan designated Lawson High School in Lawson, Lindbergh Senior High School in St. Louis, Park Hill South High School in Riverside, Valley Park Sr. High School in Valley Park, and St. Gerard Majella Catholic School in Kirkwood-a school in McCaskill's hometown-as five of only 300 schools across the country to receive a 2012 National Blue Ribbon award.

"Strengthening education for our kids and grandkids will mean better jobs and business opportunities for their future, and this award is a true testament to the hard work and commitment these schools have shown to their students and to improving education across our state," McCaskill said. "I congratulate the principals, teachers, and families in these communities for their hard work to provide high quality education to all students."

The Blue Ribbon Schools Program honors public and private elementary, middle, and high schools whose students achieve at high levels or make significant progress to close the gap in achievement levels, especially among disadvantaged and minority students.

McCaskill has written letters of congratulations to all five Missouri school districts receiving the honor.
