KYL STATEMENT ON HOUSE INTELLIGENCE COMMITTEE REPORT ON HUAWEI AND ZTE

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senate Republican Whip Jon Kyl made the following statement today in response to the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence’s report detailing increasing national security concerns posed by Huawei and ZTE:

“This report provided Huawei and ZTE another opportunity to address longstanding national security concerns about their operations and relationships with the Chinese government. Once again, both foreign companies failed to fully respond to questions posed by U.S. lawmakers on an array of issues, including links between senior corporate executives and the Chinese military. It is clear that the federal government and the private sector alike should continue to closely monitor the infiltration of Huawei and ZTE into the U.S. market – falling asleep at the switch could expose critical operations to attacks through the supply chain. And instead of focusing on lobbying and PR efforts, Huawei and ZTE would be wise to openly address the concerns raised in this report.”
