Statement on the Florida Senate SunRail Vote

Congressman John L. Mica?Republican Leader?House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee
WASHINGTON, DC -- U.S. Representative John L. Mica (R-7th District) released the following statement today following the Florida Senate vote on SunRail:
The Florida Senate vote against SunRail today was certainly a disappointment, and I will confer with my colleagues, officials of the State of Florida and key project leaders to examine any and all future project options.
If the project does not go forward nearly $100 million expended to date, along with eight years of work, hearings and effort, will all be lost.  Florida is facing 10% unemployment.  The loss of this project will kill nearly 13,000 jobs and will send more than one-third of a billion dollars in transportation funding to other states.  I am going to continue to do everything possible to see that that does not happen.
In conferring with Congresswoman Corrine Brown, Chairwoman of the House Railroad Subcommittee, she further stated, “I am committed to work to find ways to make SunRail a reality for the State of Florida.”
