Statement of Congressman Mica on the President’s Recess Appointment of Aviation Security Czar

"I am pleased that President Bush has taken this action to allow John Magaw to immediately assume the responsibilities of our nation’s new Under Secretary for Transportation Security. The traveling public can now be reassured that someone is in charge and is working to improve security at our airports and other transportation hubs."

"On December 27th , I called on President Bush to use his recess appointment powers, and I commend him for exercising leadership. I look forward to working with Mr. Magaw on putting into place measures necessary to provide our nation with transportation security."
