Federal Assistance for Law Enforcement in

WASHINGTON, DC -- U.S. Representative John L. Mica (R-7th District) today announced that the House of Representatives approved $250,000 in federal assistance for the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Department.?            ?“The Federal Government recognizes the critical needs of our local law enforcement agencies.  With this support, I am hopeful that St. Johns County, Sheriff Shoar and his staff will be better equipped to respond to disasters, emergencies and crime in our community,” stated Rep. Mica.
The funds approved in the FY2010 Commerce, Justice, Science Appropriations bill will assist St. Johns County with updating the county’s emergency communications system.  The current system does not allow efficient communications during some emergency situations in various areas of the county.  The recent storms in St. Johns County highlighted the importance for updating the system to ensure all police, fire and EMS units are able to communicate.?            ?            These appropriations are subject to approval by the U.S Senate.
