Federal Assistance for Emergency Management in St. Johns County

WASHINGTON, DC -- U.S. Representative John L. Mica (R-St. Johns County) announced today final passage yesterday of the 2010 Federal funding bill which included $250,000 in federal assistance for the St. Johns County.
“The Federal Government recognizes the critical needs of our local law enforcement and emergency management agencies.  With this support, I am hopeful that St. Johns County, Sheriff Shoar and their staff will be better equipped to respond to disasters, emergencies and crime in our community,” stated Congressman Mica.
The funds approved in the FY2010 Commerce, Justice, Science Appropriations bill will assist St. Johns County by updating the county’s emergency communications system.  The current system does not allow efficient communications during some emergency situations in various areas of the county.  The destructive storms in St. Johns County earlier this year highlighted the importance for updating the system to ensure all police, fire and EMS units are able to effectively communicate to better deliver their lifesaving services to our community.? ?This funding was included in a House-passed appropriations measure that was due to be completed October 1st and has been delayed.  This legislation, which is not part of the stimulus, now moves to the U.S. Senate for final approval before being submitted to the President.
