Embry-Riddle to Receive Federal Grant

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Rep. John L. Mica (FL-07), announced today that Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University will receive almost $600,000 in Federal funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to support science and engineering scholarships.
“Embry-Riddle does an outstanding job of preparing students for careers in science and engineering, and I am pleased to see the NSF support the extraordinarily qualified students who have chosen this institution,” Rep. Mica said of the award.  “This grant will assist deserving students with excellent career opportunities, especially at a time when our economy is strained and families are struggling to finance careers in the aviation industry.”
The Federal award of $594,407 will be disbursed through the NSF to support Embry-Riddle’s “Making Disadvantaged Engineering Graduates a Reality” program.  This will allow the University to provide scholarships to students in the fields of computer science and in computer, mechanical, software and electrical engineering.  The award is effective June 1, 2009.
Congressman Mica concluded, “To remain competitive, we must support the science and engineering students of today to prepare for the markets of the future.”
